Trading Costs Explained

Understand Your
Trading Costs

Depending on the instrument, your total trading cost may include the spread, a trading commission and an overnight swap. Your Octrado Trading Level can reduce selected spreads and commissions as your qualifying deposit increases.

Variable Spreads

Spreads reflect current market conditions and may change during periods of volatility or reduced liquidity.

Level-Based Pricing

Higher Trading Levels provide progressively greater discounts on selected spreads and commissions.

Transparent Commissions

Separate commissions apply to stock and ETF CFDs and are charged when a position is opened and again when it is closed.

Overnight Financing

A swap may be credited or debited when a CFD position remains open after the daily rollover.

One clear view of your costs. The following sections explain how spreads, commissions, swaps and other account-related costs work, with practical calculations based on Octrado conditions.

What Makes Up the Cost of a Trade?

The total cost of a trade can consist of several separate components. Not every component applies to every instrument or every position.

1

Spread

The difference between the current buy and sell price. It is reflected in the value of the position when the trade is opened.

2

Commission

A separate charge for stock and ETF CFDs. It is charged when the position is opened and again when it is closed.

3

Swap

An overnight financing adjustment that may be credited or debited when a CFD position remains open after rollover.

4

Other Possible Costs

Account maintenance, third-party payment charges, currency conversion and rollover effects may also be relevant.

Total Cost Formula

SPREAD + COMMISSION + SWAP = TOTAL TRADING COST

The applicable combination depends on the instrument, position and holding period. A separate commission does not apply to every instrument. An overnight swap does not apply when a position is closed before rollover.

What Is a Spread?

Bid Price

The price at which you can sell.

Ask Price

The price at which you can buy.

The difference between these prices is the spread. Octrado offers variable spreads, so the spread can become narrower or wider depending on liquidity, volatility, order size and other market conditions.

Calculation Formula

Spread cost = spread × contract size × position size

Illustrative XAU/USD Example

Assume you open a 0.10 lot position in XAU/USD. The contract size is 100 troy ounces per lot.

Level Typical Spread Calculation Illustrative Cost
Level 1 USD 0.40 USD 0.40 × 100 × 0.10 USD 4.00
Level 7 USD 0.22 USD 0.22 × 100 × 0.10 USD 2.20

Variable pricing — The actual spread may differ at execution and can widen during periods of high volatility, reduced liquidity, market openings or important economic announcements.

Examples of Typical Spreads

Current specifications are available in the instrument pages and MetaTrader 5.

Instrument Level 1 Spread Level 7 Spread
EUR/GBP 0.9 pips 0.3 pips
GBP/USD 1.0 pip 0.4 pips
Gold – XAU/USD USD 0.40 USD 0.22
WTI Oil – USWTI USD 0.043 USD 0.013

Spreads are variable and may change without prior notice.

Trading Commissions

A commission is a separate trading charge that applies to stock and ETF CFDs. It is charged when a position is opened and again when it is closed.

Market Default Commission Level 7 Commission
United States stock CFDs 0.10%, min. USD 1 USD 0
Other listed stock CFD markets 0.20%, min. USD 2 USD 0
ETF CFDs 0.10%, min. USD 1 USD 0

Example Calculation

You open a USD 5,000 position in a US stock CFD.

USD 5,000 × 0.10% = USD 5.00

The result is higher than the USD 1 minimum, so the opening commission is USD 5.00.

When the position is closed, the commission is charged again at the closing value.

Total for round trip: USD 10.00

Minimum Commission Rule

When the percentage calculation produces an amount below the published minimum, the minimum commission applies to that side of the trade.

Your Trading Level Can Reduce Your Costs

Your Trading Level is determined by the qualifying deposit. As the deposit level increases, selected spread and commission discounts may improve.

Level Min. Deposit Spread Benefit Commission Benefit
Level 1 USD 1,000 No discount No discount
Level 2 USD 10,000 Up to 10% 10% discount
Level 3 USD 50,000 Up to 20% 30% discount
Level 4 USD 100,000 Up to 30% 30% discount
Level 5 USD 250,000 Up to 40% 60% discount
Level 6 USD 500,000 Up to 50% 60% discount
Level 7 USD 1,000,000 Up to 75% Zero on stock and ETF CFDs

A higher Trading Level does not mean every trade is free of charge. Variable spreads, overnight swaps and other applicable costs may continue to apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Octrado spreads fixed?

No. Spreads are variable and can widen or narrow depending on market liquidity and volatility. The Trading Level applied to the account can also reduce the spread on eligible instruments.

Which instruments have a separate commission?

US stock CFDs, other listed stock CFD markets and ETF CFDs are charged a separate commission in addition to the spread. Most other instruments are spread-only.

When is the triple swap applied?

Standard overnight swap is charged once per rollover, except on Wednesday, when a triple swap (×3) is applied to account for the weekend settlement of open positions.

Can a swap be positive?

Yes. Depending on the instrument, position direction and prevailing interest rate differential, the swap can be credited rather than debited to the account.

Does Level 7 mean all trading is free?

No. Level 7 removes commission on stock and ETF CFDs and offers the largest available spread discount, but spreads, overnight swaps and other applicable costs may still apply.

Does Octrado charge deposit or withdrawal fees?

Octrado Ltd. does not charge its own deposit or withdrawal fee. A bank, card provider or payment service may still apply its own third-party charge.
